Liar’s Lounge at Cane & Grain

Liar’s Lounge at Cane and Grain is a tropical tiki bar paradise hideaway set atop a skate bar, rib joint and part speakeasy.

Smack bang in the middle of Manchester’s Northern Quarter lies a tiki paradise hidden within a trio of bars at Cane and Grain. The overall concept takes its inspiration from its previous occupants ‘Cast’ a legendary skate shop and party hangout and our challenge was to keep elements of the street/skate styling from downstairs and incorporate these into a top floor tiki hideaway.

Case Study: Liar’s Lounge at Cane & Grain

Starting with the more traditional Polynesian materials such as bamboo and palm matting we then layered in a hint of pop culture adding huge replica sharks and sword fish to give it a kitsch edge which was all accesses via a staircase covered in voodoo masks and back lit vintage skateboards again blending these two very different genre’s.

Cladding the bar with skate boards enabled us to bring the skate styling downstairs up.
